Deeply Original. Borderline Quirky. This is how jurists have described my work when accepting these paintings into various exhibitions.
I start with very few concepts in mind, other than color. First I do an underpainting of some wild color such as Quinicidrone Violet (hot pink), then make my first mark. After this, I respond to the first mark, and so on. It's an iterative process that involves leaving my brain and moving into a non-verbal experience.
Paintings here are generally larger than three feet on one side and are all oil on canvas.

Most of the Stone sculptures in this section were made by hand, using a chisel and hammer (and of course, lots of sandpaper). It's a technique I was taught by the famous Champugo sculptors from Zimbabwe, Africa. Through a series of week-long outdoor workshops at the Denver Botanic Gardens and the Art Students League, I learned to carve the stone in a patient, methodical way. These rocks are Serpentine Stone from Zimbabwe.
Later I learned to sculpt more formally using an air hammer as well as hand tools. The "House" sculpture and "Nature/Nurture" are made from limestone and alabaster respectively, using this technique.
